Avon was settled in 1645 and originally known as the "Land of Nod". It was incorporated as a town in 1830 and named after the Avon River in England. Dairy farming, raising poultry and growing tobacco were predominant occupations. The Climax Fuse Company is responsible for the old brownstone buildings which are now the Town Offices and Farmington Valley Arts Center.
Today, Avon is a fast growing, thriving community with top notch schools and a myriad of commercial centers, professional services and recreational options. The convenient location, beautiful landscape, availability of newer homes, and state of the art amenities makes this town an attractive choice to make your home.
